چکیده

This paper explores antenna diversity issues for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) in frequency flat and selective fading environment using three combining methods – maximal ratio combining (MRC), equal gain combining (EGC), and selection combining (SC). For OFDM, diversity combining can be done on individual subcarriers (narrowband combining) or on the entire OFDM symbol (wideband combining). For narrowband combining, OFDM diversity performance in frequency selective can be predicted using flat fading analytic formulas, given that subchannels are sufficiently narrowband. For wideband combining, an equivalent channel model based on the number of rays in the channel is formulated and an analytic expression for wideband SC is derived. Computer simulation is used to verify these expressions and methods to improve the three combining techniques are discussed, including metric filtering, selection grouping, and higher order selection diversity.

Time-Varying Frequency Fading Channel Tracking In OFDM-PLNC System, Using Kalman Filter

Physical-layer network coding (PLNC) has the ability to drastically improve the throughput of multi-source wireless communication systems. In this paper, we focus on the problem of channel tracking in a Decode-and-Forward (DF) OFDM PLNC system. We proposed a Kalman Filter-based algorithm for tracking the frequency/time fading channel in this system. Tracking of the channel is performed in the t...

Empirical Mode Decomposition based Adaptive Filtering for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Channel Estimation

This paper presents an empirical mode decomposition (EMD) based adaptive filter (AF) for channel estimation in OFDM system.  In this method, length of channel impulse response (CIR) is first approximated using Akaike information criterion (AIC). Then, CIR is estimated using adaptive filter with EMD decomposed IMF of the received OFDM symbol. The correlation and kurtosis measures are used to sel...

A Blind Hammerstein Diversity Combining Technique for Flat Fading Channels

Diversity combining techniques play an important role in combating the destructive effects of channel fading in wireless communication systems. In this work we present a blind diversity combining technique for Rayleigh flat fading channels based on Hammerstein type filters. We show that the performance of this technique is very close to ideal MRC system which is accepted as an optimum receiver ...
